I can't believe we're already starting the 2nd semester! It seems like just yesterday I was meeting my shiny, new first graders. It's amazing how time flies!
We celebrated the new year by working in centers with a New Year's theme. The centers were ABC ordering New Year's words, making words with the letters in Happy New Year, antonyms, telling time to the hour, and sorting math facts around the number 12 (less than, equal to, and greater than).
Resolution is a word that pops into mind when we think about a brand new year. We discussed the meaning of the word, listened to Squirrel's New Year's Resolution, and made our own resolutions. We also made and discussed a graph called "What time did you go to bed on New Year's Eve?" Not surprisingly, a huge majority of the class said they stayed up super late :).
