Accelerated Reader
The Accelerated Reader program is now underway. The contest will run from September 1, 2011 - April 13, 2012. The top three point earners for the 2011-12 school year will receive a trophy and a Walmart gift card at their grade level awards/recognition ceremony in May.
Each Friday, beginning September 9th, the weekly top three point earners in each grade level will be recognized during the Friday afternoon announcements. Their names will also be posted in the hall outside the media center. This recognition is specifically for the top three students in each grade level that earned the most points in that particular week. The overall top three point earners in each grade level, for the entire year, will be announced in May.
Point Clubs: At HLES, we have the AR 10 Point Club, 25 Point Club, 50 Point Club, 100 Point Club, 250 Point Club and the 500 Point Club. Once a student earns enough points, they will receive a wrist band that is embossed with that point club name. Once a student earns 500 points, they will have their name engraved on the AR 500 Point Club plaque that will be displayed in the hall. Once a student attains 500 AR points, they have completed the AR program at HLES.
There are two different types of AR points: Total Points and Available Points. Total points accumulate from year to year, as long as the student is at HLES. Available points are points the student has available to spend at the AR store. Once a student spends points at the AR store, those points are deducted from their available points. Available points do not carry over to the next school year.
Students will have the opportunity to spend their available AR points they have earned at the AR Store. The AR store will be held October 18-19, December 13-14, February 13-14, and April 16-17. Students may spend some of their available points or all of their available points at each store. However, all available AR points must be spent by the April AR store. Available points do not carry over to the next year.
Last year, the top AR point earners in each grade level were: Faruq Etti - 1st Grade, Alexis Jones - 2nd Grade, Adesuwa Obasuyi - 3rd Grade, Camille Steve - 4th Grade and Kayla Jenkins - 5th Grade.
